Ceramics I & II - Course Outline & Curriculum Objectives
Students will learn the process of clay, from working with wet clay to a finished glazed piece. Students will complete projects in both hand building clay processes—such as pinch, coil, and slab building—and wheel thrown pottery.
Ceramics II students also have the option to learn Stained Glass. Small projects in stained glass will be covered with the class fee, but larger projects will be an additional cost.

Projects – 60%
Participation – 40%
Every absence is a 0 out of 5, but you can make up missing days by coming in after school. 1 hour for each absence. You also get 1 absence dropped.
Final Grade Scale
A = 95-100 B = 83-85 C = 73-76 D = 63-66
A- = 90-94 B- = 80-82 C- = 70-72 D- = 60-62
B+ = 86-89 C+ = 77-79 D+ = 67-69 F = 59 or less
Class Fee
Ceramics I & II - $40
A class fee should have been paid at the time of registration. The fee covers the cost classroom supplies such as tools, glaze and some clay.
The first 1.5 bags of clay is included with the registration fee. Additional clay might be needed depending on size of pieces created and whether students re-use their scrap clay. All clay purchases go through the finance office.
Tools
Each student will receive their own set of tools this year. There is no initial cost for the tools. If students don't return the tools at the end of the term, they will be charged in order to replace the tool set.

Extra Clay Prices
$18 - bag of new clay
$9 - 1/2 bag of new clay
Class Rules

CLASS OPENING: come in, be quiet, sit down, sketch what’s on the screen, No Talking & No Earbuds

No cell phones during the beginning of class

During handbuilding time, earbuds are allowed; no earbuds when throwing

Being in the kiln room = Dropping off Greenware to be fired, otherwise STAY OUT
